My approach to ceremony:
I understand the requirements of a professional approach from my other professions of social planner and architect. Once you have engaged me I do everything possible to make the ceremony an excellent one.

The process with me is consultative, I assist you to develop a ceremony which is personal, giving guidance as to what is essential and what is possible.

The initial consultation is free and without obligation. We would probably have at least two meetings to develop the ceremony and deal with the legalities. Other meetings as required.

We email and telephone each other as required.

About resources - I have considerable textual resource available. I recommend the purchase of Dally Messenger's excellent book Ceremonies and Celebrations, or I can lend you a copy. I can arrange live music as required. I am skilled at helping you articulate your wishes and advising you on the best expression of your values and beliefs.

How do we create the ceremony?
We start with a traditional outline, showing the elements that are required by law, and personalising it from there. I encourage creative freedom for you and am very happy to have particular cultural elements incorporated into your ceremony. With a brief from you that I can help you formulate, I can develop any elements you do not feel confident composing yourselves. You give the final approval of the whole ceremony.

The Rehearsal.
I strongly recommend an on site rehearsal of the ceremony - a good time is a day or so before the wedding with everyone having a role in the ceremony being present. Readers need to practise reading their passage aloud privately and at the rehearsal. I can coach readers who are unfamiliar with this role.

The ceremony itself
The ceremony needs to be dignified and memorable, doing justice to the solemnity of the occasion, but it should also be a joyful event and an element of fun or humour can be incorporated appropriately. As a celebrant, I do not adopt character roles (e.g. Elvis). The celebrant's role, in my view, is to be the Master of Ceremonies and the official State Witness. The stars of the show are the Bride and Groom and the less noticeable I am the better. After a good footie match you remember the players, not the ref.

Legal requirements and how I register the ceremony.
All the legal requirements are explained and attended to in the interviews.

Funerals and Namings and other ceremonies
